I decided to shoot boudoir photography after my first lingerie shoot with a plus size fashion influencer, I found that I had a knack making people feel and accept how amazing they really are.
Long before the shoot begins, I open a line of communication with my client. I get to know what makes them tick. What they love most about themselves. Once we get to the shoot, it’s all about making the client feel comfortable. I demonstrate the poses myself because if I make myself vulnerable, it’s easier for my client to relax and be open and vulnerable themselves.
Black is beautiful, there’s no denying that. As a father of twin black daughters, it’s important to me that I use my skills to uplift black women. That means celebrating our shared culture but also highlighting what makes each client stand out. Yes, we have similarities, but no two black women are the same and that adds to the beauty of black women. It’s this uniqueness that I focus on for every one of my clients.
You are beautiful, the world deserves to see it. But, and arguably more importantly you need to see it and believe it for yourself. You need to know that regardless of age, size, shape or any number of arbitrary descriptors, you’re amazing. Never do a shoot for anyone other than yourself, because at the end of the day, you matter above others.
I hope you’re looking after yourself by staying home as best as you’re able. Spend time in front of the mirror appreciating what you see before you. Take those photos you never believed you could. Post them for all to see or save them and look at them to remind you how awesome you are. Don’t let this current situation diminish your light!
